GSL have undertaken investigatory work into the feasability of the beneficiation of an African barite deposit. Detailed mineralogical analysis of randomly selected trench samples showed that the ore consisted of predominantly barite and silica, with small occurrence of other minor minerals. QemScan analysis showed that the liberation size of the barite was conducive to coarse gravity concentration, so GSL undertook test work into the effectiveness of barite gravity concentration via spirals. Initial indications from spiral performance verification testing were promising.
