Investigating the effects of Stirred Media Detritor (SMD) mill grinding parameters on grinding efficiency and media / machine wear rates over a number of months involving a number of discrete work programmes based around producing accurate bench scale data. The data was incorporated into computational modelling of industrial scale SMD processes, models were produced with emphasis on finding the optimum SMD operating parameters for a given ore and process application. The project also allowed for significant progress towards bridging the gap between bench scale findings and plant scale operation.
