Simon Bailey has submitted an abstract entitled ” The effect and control of vortex stability in SMDs with regard to grinding performance” to the MEI conference Comminution ’16. GSL has carried out collaborative work with Magotteaux investigating the effect and control of vortex stability in Metsos’ SMD fine grinding mills. This important study investigates the effects of mill charge on power draw and grind size with various vortex conditions. The focus of the work is to determine the range of operating conditions that will optimise the grinding efficiency of these mills and reduce overall operating costs. As an advocate of CEEC Nick Wilshaw is keen to promote efficient use of energy in fine grinding applications.
