The laboratory staff are undertaking on-going test work refining halloysite and kaolin clays from the run of mine matrix from a new potential halloysite and kaolin project. The feed matrix has a high Mica content which has led to interesting findings from comparative size analysis of the products of sedimentation and centrifuge cuts. Differential settling properties associated with fine platy Mica’s have created the need for a high degree of accuracy in the control of refining, however recoveries of both halloysite and kaolin clays indicate refining has been successful. Samples have been sent for mineralogical analysis by XRD and SEM to a world leading external laboratory, GSL are awaiting the results before continuing with phase 2 of the testing.
